Pizza Sauce

Pizza sauce was one of those things I never bothered to make. It only costs like $1 for a jar of sauce at the store, and while it doesn’t taste awesome, it tastes ok. However, I’m always trying to reduce the amount of processed food that we eat, so I set out on a search for a recipe for pizza sauce. This recipe is absoultely fabulous, and I can truly say that I will never go back to the jarred sauce. Not only does it taste great, it is quick and easy to make. Just mince some garlic, throw in some spices and tomato sauce, bring it to a boil and you have homemade pizza sauce before you oven is even pre-heated.

Pizza Sauce
Yields: About 1 1/4 cups of sauce

Ingredients:
15 oz. can of tomato sauce
2 cloves of garlic, finely minced
1 tbsp. + 1 tsp. olive oil
1/2 tsp. dried basil
1/2 tsp. dried oregano
1/4 tsp. onion powder
1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 tsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt or to taste

Directions:
In a medium saucepan, over medium heat add the oil. Then, add the garlic and cook till fragrant (about 30 seconds). Add the rest of the ingredients and bring to a gently boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 15-18 minutes. Once finished cooking, remove from the heat and let cool.

*Freezer-Friendly Tip* – Store extra sauce in an air-tight container in the refrigerator or freezer.

Thank you! =) I love pizza sauce, but store bought, even in glass jars, has a funny taste to it. I prefer everything as homemade and unprocessed as possible, so this is wonderful! =) I am making your pull apart pizza bread today for game day, and using this sauce. Awesome blog! =)
