Across the internet, there has been a revolution of this tasty smoothie known as the Green Monster. It even has its own website. Basically, you add spinach to your favorite smoothie recipe for a green, nutrition packed smoothie. Since spinach has little to no taste to it, you can add it to smoothies for a nutritional boost without changing the flavor. I finally got around to giving the green monster a try, and its true – you really can’t taste the spinach! I swear! All I taste is the peanut butter and banana. I made the green monster after a hard workout, and it was very refreshing and gave me a ton of energy to get through the rest of the day. So, even if you are skeptical, give it a try – you might be surprised!
Green Monster Smoothie
Yields: 1 large smoothie
2 cups of fresh spinach
1 cup of milk
2 tablespoons peanut or almond butter
1 tablespoon flax seed (optional)
Place the flax seed, spinach, peanut butter, banana, and milk in the blender in that order. (You want the heavier ingredients on top to weigh down the spinach). Blend on high until all the ingredients are smooth. Add the ice and blend on the “ice” mode until the ice chunks are broken up.
Pour into a tall glass, and enjoy!
