In my typical type A fashion, as soon as I found out I was pregnant I immediately made a million lists. Lists of things to buy, projects to do around the house, activities to do with Avery while she is still the only child, and a long list of freezer meals to make before the baby comes. I’m waiting until a little closer to my due date before making freezer meals, but I definitely plan to share my process and recipes with you all when the time comes.
In addition to homemade meals and snacks, I also plan to keep some pre-made meals on hand for quick and easy lunches. When I was asked to review these Healthy Choice Simply Cafe Steamers all natural meals, I jumped right at the chance. They are all natural, made with organic ingredients. They take between 3-5 minutes each to make, and all have 270 calories of less – perfect for the nursing mom who will be trying to shed the baby weight! These meals have a steamer basket on top to steam the ingredients, then you toss in a tasty sauce below the steamer basket. They taste fresh and flavorful and the fact that they are 100% natural and made with non-GMO ingredients make me a happy lady!
I had the opportunity of trying four different flavors. The first one I tried was Creamy Spinach and Tomato Linguini…it was a pasta dish with organic spinach and tomatoes in a creamy sauce. It was delicious! The noodles came out perfect and it was chock full of healthy veggies.
The second one I tried was the Unwrapped Burrito Bowl. This was my husbands favorite, as he is a big fan of Mexican food. It was a mix of organic brown rice mixed with organic pinto and black beans, fire roasted corn, red bell peppers and scallions tossed in a tasty tomatillo sauce. Even though this is technically an unwrapped burrito bowl, I bet it would be even better wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla.
Next was Three Cheese Tortellini – another favorite of mine. It is organic cheese tortellini tossed with spinach and mushrooms in a savory marinara sauce. The sauce was exceptionally tasty and full of flavor.
And finally, we tried the Sweet and Spicy Asian-Style Noodle Bowl. This meal consisted of udon noodles, organic edamame and carrots, celery, bell pepper and scallions in a spicy soy sauce. The sauce was exceptionally tasty and I loved the hint of sweetness in it.
Overall, my husband and I loved the Healthy Choice Simply Cafe Steamers, and will definitely be adding these to our freezer stash this fall. Nothing better than having quick, Easy but healthy options in the freezer for those first few crazy months with a newborn!
